Family Support
Parent Support and Guidance
At Whitley Village School, we believe that working in partnership with families gives children the best opportunity to succeed. If you have any concerns about your child's learning, communication, emotional wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, or development, please come and talk to us. We are always happy to listen and, where appropriate, signpost families to services and organisations that may be able to help.
Where we feel there is sufficient evidence to support a concern, school can help families access appropriate professional services and may support with referrals to NHS and other specialist services for further consideration.
SEND Local Offers
Your Local Authority's SEND Local Offer provides information about support, services, activities and guidance available for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families.

Speech and Language Therapy
We understand that some families choose to access additional Speech and Language Therapy privately. Where practical, Whitley Village School is happy to allow commissioned sessions with Jane Mullen Speech and Language Therapy to take place on the school site during the school day, helping to minimise disruption and support continuity of learning.
myHappymind
Whitley Village School delivers the myHappymind programme, a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing. The programme is based on neuroscience and helps children develop resilience, self-esteem, confidence and positive mental wellbeing through daily practice and learning activities. [myhappymind.org]
Parents can reinforce their child's learning at home through the myHappymind Parent App, which includes resources, videos, activities and practical strategies for supporting wellbeing.

Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA)
We are currently training a member of staff to become an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA).
ELSA is a recognised programme designed to support children who may need help with:
Understanding and managing emotions
Building self-esteem and confidence
Developing social and friendship skills
Managing anxiety and worries
Coping with change, loss or bereavement
Developing positive strategies for emotional wellbeing
ELSA sessions take place in a safe, supportive environment and are designed to help children overcome barriers to learning by developing their emotional literacy and resilience.
Need Some Help?
If you feel your child or family would benefit from additional support, advice or guidance, please speak to your child's class teacher, the SENDCo or a member of our pastoral team. We may be able to offer support directly, help you access specialist services, or signpost you to organisations that can provide further assistance. We encourage families to come and talk to us early so that we can work together to ensure every child receives the support they need to flourish.
