Unlocking Potential: Our National Enrichment Strategy

Article 29: Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.

At Whitley Village Primary School, we provide a truly holistic educational experience that nurtures the whole child. Driven by our overarching vision to produce adults who go on to change the world and guided by our daily mission to "Be the best you can be," our enrichment framework integrates all eight national benchmarks. Underpinned by our core values of Mutual Respect, Ambition for All, and Nurture, we deliver experiences that build character, ignite curiosity, and prepare every child to thrive.

Our enrichment offer includes:

• School Parliament, Junior Safety Officers, community fundraising, oracy workshops, and public speaking competitions.

• Residential trips including Tattenhall for year 2 and 3, London for year 4 and Min-Y-Don for year 6, featuring canoeing, abseiling, and mountain biking.

• Live musical showcases, author encounters, and whole-school performances such as the Rose Queen fete.

• Community planting events, gardening efforts

• Fencing, gymnastics, dance, Scottish Dancing participation at the White Rose Festival each summer, football for all ages, inter-school leagues, play leadership, yoga, and celebrating achievements like orienteering in assembly.

• CENTURY AI learning, after-school clubs, parent career talks, and development of oracy and effective communication.

  Participation is championed and celebrated. We keep families informed through our School Spider platform and social channels, celebrating student milestones via assemblies, certificates, and reports. We monitor participation to ensure equitable access by reviewing online bookings.

  Our offer is co-designed with our pupils, parents, and local community. Student voice actively influences our enrichment initiatives and club offerings, while parent partnerships support everything from green spaces to local events.

  We collaborate with external partners—including Weaverham High School, St Luke's Church, First4Maths, and BikeRight—to expand opportunities beyond the standard curriculum.

  We regularly review our provision. Listening to student and staff feedback ensures our enrichment curriculum evolves constantly to meet high standards and interests. We have a carefully planned cycle of activities over a three-year period, ensuring we can maximise our offer thoughtfully so that all pupils can find an activity to try.

National Music Strategy & Live Performance

In full alignment with the refreshed National Plan for Music Education, live performance is embedded as a core entitlement for every pupil. We work directly with specialist music teachers from Weaverham High each year to deliver opportunities to particpate in a music festival, foster a love for performance, and inspire high levels of participation. We also put on whole school performances and upper Key Stage 2 Plays.
