Unlocking Potential: Our National Enrichment Strategy

At Whitley Village Primary School, we provide a truly holistic educational experience that nurtures the whole child. Driven by our overarching vision to produce adults who go on to change the world and guided by our daily mission to "Be the best you can be," our enrichment framework integrates all eight national benchmarks. Underpinned by our core values of Mutual Respect, Ambition for All, and Nurture, we deliver experiences that build character, ignite curiosity, and prepare every child to thrive.

Our 8-Point Benchmark Framework

• 1. Strategically Aligned: Enrichment is directly embedded into our school development goals. From driving attendance and positive behavior to supporting wellbeing through myHappymind, every activity intentionally reinforces academic and personal growth.

• 2. Broad and Well-Rounded: We guarantee equitable access across five core national pillars:

  • Civic Engagement: School Parliament, Junior Safety Officers, community fundraising, oracy workshops, and public speaking competitions.

  • Arts & Culture: Live musical showcases, author encounters, visiting classical artists, and whole-school performances at the Rose Queen.

  • Nature, Outdoors & Adventure: Community planting events, gardening efforts, and residentials to London and Min-Y-Don featuring canoeing, abseiling, and mountain biking.

  • Sport & Physical Activity: Fencing, gymnastics, dance, Scottish Dancing participation at the White Rose Festival each summer, football for all ages, inter-school leagues, play leadership, yoga, and celebrating achievements like orienteering in assembly.

  • Life & Future Skills: Early computing logins, CENTURY AI learning, after-school clubs, parent career talks, and hosting work-experience students.

• 3. Well-Communicated & Celebrated: Participation is championed and celebrated. We keep families informed through our School Spider platform and social channels, celebrating student milestones via assemblies, certificates, and termly reports.

• 4. Community-Shaped: Our offer is co-designed with our pupils, parents, and local community. Student voice actively influences our reading initiatives and club offerings, while parent partnerships support everything from green spaces to local events.

• 5. Accessible & Inclusive: Barriers are systematically removed so every child participates. We provide adaptive support for pupils with SEND, offer free cycles for families, and run structured lunchtime provisions like Century Club , Multiplication Club and SATs booster to guarantee total inclusion.

• 6. Powerful Partnerships: We collaborate with external partners—including Weaverham High School, St Luke's Church, First4Maths, and BikeRight—to expand opportunities beyond the standard curriculum.

• 7. Outcomes-Focused: We measure success through tangible personal development. Whether tracking confidence in public speaking, athletic tournament success, or digital literacy milestones, we map growth over time.

• 8. Continually Improving: We regularly review our provision. Listening to student and staff feedback ensures our enrichment curriculum evolves constantly to meet high standards and interests. We have a carefully planned cycle of activities over a three-year period so that we can maximise our offer in a thoughtful way so that all pupils can find an activity to try.

National Music Strategy & Live Performance

In full alignment with the refreshed National Plan for Music Education, live performance is embedded as a core entitlement for every pupil. We work directly with specialist music teachers from Weaverham High each year to deliver expert opportunities, foster a love for performance, and inspire high levels of participation. We also put on whole school performances and upper Key Stage 2 Plays.
