PE and Sport Premium

The Government provides a  ‘Sport Premium’ to support the delivery of PE and sport in primary schools. This funding is ring-fenced, and allocated directly to primary schools across England, providing them with a dedicated resource to invest in PE and sport.

The funding is allocated through a lump sum for each school and a per-pupil top-up mechanism. The formula references the number of primary-aged pupils (i.e. children between the ages of 5 and 11). All schools with seventeen or more primary-aged pupils will receive a lump sum of £16,000 plus a premium of £10 per pupil.

Our aim is to provide all children at Whitley with at least 2 hours of high quality, enjoyable and challenging physical education, as well as ensuring that children are being as active as possibe during break and lunch times. A high priority of ours in recent years has been to aim to develop our staff to become excellent PE teachers. We are using the Primary Sports Grant to ensure that this happens quickly and is consistent over time.

PE and Sport play a very important part in the life of our school. We believe that physical education and sport contribute to the holistic development of young people and through participation in sport and physical education, young people learn more about key values such as teamwork, fair play and respect for themselves and others.

There is significant evidence to show the positive effects of sport and exercise on children’s physical health, growth and development. Furthermore, PE and school sport also provides a healthy environment for young people to learn how to deal with competition and how to cope with both winning and losing.

Please see the documents below, which explain how much funding we receive and how this was spent.
